Pensioners Party chairman Rafi Eitan and Shas leader Eli Yishai called for Israel to regain control of the Philadelphi route during Sunday morning's cabinet meeting.
Eitan said that the Gaza Strip was "a problem" and called for the return of the Philadelphi route, the strip of land that was now under full control of Egyptian border guards and constantly being used by Palestinians as a way of smuggling weapons from Egypt to Gaza via tunnels.
Yishai also supported the move, reminding the cabinet that even before the Philadelphi pullout he warned that it would lead to disaster.
