Environment Ministry reveals 500 pollution sites

An internal report of the Environment Ministry revealed on Monday that they knew of over 500 polluted sites in Israel. The ministry believed that the actual number of sites was much higher The city with the highest pollution was Tel Aviv, with 250 such sites. Also on the list were Jerusalem with 80 polluted locations, Haifa with 59, and the northern district with 55 sites. Israel Radio reported that the major violators were the army industries (Taas), steel factories in Acre, and train fueling sites near Haifa. The most common pollutants were reported as various fuels, oils, heavy metals, organic materials, fertilizers, chemicals used for extermination, and asbestos.
