FADC subcommittee: Abolish Home Front Command

February 5, 2007 03:11

A subcommittee of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee has recommended that the Home Front Command be abolished and that a national emergency service under the authority of the Internal Security Ministry be set up in its place, Israel Radio reported late Sunday night. According to the subcommittee, the new emergency body was necessary in light of the failures in managing the home front during the war in Lebanon last summer. The recommendation will be submitted to the head of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee on Monday.
