Fifth child abuse suspect to be indicted

A fifth suspect in a gruesome Jerusalem child abuse case will be indicted in the case at the end of the week, police said Monday. Shimon Gabai is suspected of severely abusing two children, aged 3 and 4, who were savagely and systematically beaten with hammers, sticks, knives and other instruments for months until the three-year-old toddler lost consciousness last month. Gabai's remand was extended by four days on Monday by a Jerusalem court at a pre-trial hearing ahead of his expected arraignment. Four other suspects in the case, including the children's mother, have been indicted to date, with an international arrest warrant out for the suspected ringleader of the group who fled the country last month.
