A driver critically hurt Wednesday in a car crash on the Tunnel Road, between Jerusalem and Gush Etzion, died of his wounds in the capital's Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital later that night.
The man, an east Jerusalem resident, veered from his lane for an unknown reason and collided with a cement mixer.
It brought the number of people killed in car accidents across Israel Wednesday to five.
In a six-vehicle collision on a road east of the town of Shfaram, one person was killed, one was seriously injured and six others were lightly hurt.
MDA teams from the Carmel paramedic unit pronounced the man dead and evacuated the other casualties to the Rambam Hospital in Haifa.
A preliminary investigation revealed that for an unknown reason, a semi-trailer hit a car, pushing it under a truck traveling ahead of it.
Firefighters from the Shfaram station had to saw apart the vehicle in order to extract the injured and the dead. Route 79 between the Somekh junction and Shfaram was closed for traffic following the accident.
Earlier Wednesday, a woman, 25, and a man, 70, were killed after the driver of a van carrying disabled persons crashed into a bus station near the Givat Shmuel interchange on Route 4.
Another woman was seriously injured; the driver suffered minor injuries.
Police said it appeared that the van driver had hit a traffic island, lost control of the vehicle and reeled into the bus stop, running over the people who were standing there.
The 25-year-old woman and the 70-year-old man were both seriously injured in the collision.
