Five new Arab schools will be constructed next year in east Jerusalem, the city said Tuesday. Education Minister Yuli Tamir has said that 6,000 classrooms were lacking in Israel, including 1,300 in east Jerusalem. The dearth of school classrooms in east Jerusalem is especially severe due to the uncertain political future of the area since the 1967 Six Day War.
