Former chief rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu undergoes emergency bypass surgery

Former chief rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu was admitted to Jerusalem's Shaarei Tzedek Hospital Friday night after suffering a heart attack. At approximately 2 a.m. on Saturday morning an emergency response team was called to the rabbi's house in Jerusalem, due to complaints of chest pains and shortness of breath. Paramedics diagnosed that Eliyahu was suffering from a heart attack. The rabbi is currently in a serious condition in Shaarei Tzedek Hospital in Jerusalem. He has undergone emergency bypass surgery and on Saturday night was in recovery in a serious but stable condition.
