Maj.-Gen. Yoav Galant was appointed Thursday as head of OC Southern Command.
Prior to his nomination, Galant served as the prime minister's military secretary, Israel Radio reported.
Maj.-Gen. Dan Harel, whom Galant is replacing as head of OC Southern Command, orchestrated the disengagement from Gaza this summer, and will now be sent to Washington as a military attach .
