IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Dan Halutz dispelled rumors of his imminent resignation on Wednesday and slammed his fellow generals and military officers who he said were "breathing down his neck" and calling for him to quit the military.

  • The second Lebanon war: JPost.com special report "It is much easier to fight against an enemy than to deal with so-called colleagues who speak the same language as you while breathing down your neck," Halutz said in an interview to reporter Amir Bohbot from the NRG news Web site. Responding to recent news articles that quoted close associates of his claiming he intended to resign after the inquiry committees investigating the IDF's performance during the war completed their work, Halutz said: "I hear the rumors and I didn't even know that I had associates. Let it be clear: I have no intention of resigning. When I have something to announce, I will announce it." Nevertheless, Halutz admitted that there comes a point for every person when they would be too insulted and hurt to carry on. "Every person has a limited amount of weight they can carry," Halutz said. "I am not yet there and let it be clear: I am continuing. I am here and am doing what needs to get done."
