As representatives of higher education institutions were convening to meet with Education Minister Yuli Tamir and with officials from the Finance Ministry, the chances of avoiding a strike slated to delay the beginning of the academic year on Sunday seemed nonexistent.
"We are simply waiting for a miracle," a representative in the talks said Saturday.
Higher education professors wish to reform their wage agreement, which would include reimbursing some NIS 300 million which were taken from the university budgets by the government in the past years.
