Six Kassam rockets pounded the western Negev on Saturday, a day after seven Palestinians were reported killed during IDF operations in the Gaza Strip. IDF troops operated throughout the Strip on Friday, on the ground as well as in the air, targeting gunmen who were spotted planting bombs along the security fence and involved in Kassam rocket fire. Early Friday, a missile fired by an IAF aircraft killed a Hamas man and seriously wounded another, Palestinian officials said. The army said the gunmen were approaching IDF troops near the border when the aircraft opened fire. A Hamas gunman and two Islamic Jihad operatives were killed by aircraft fire in central Gaza and another Hamas man was killed in a gunfight with soldiers near Jabalya in the northern Strip. On Saturday, two Palestinians were killed by an explosion that ripped through a house in southern Gaza. The IDF said it was not involved in the incident. IDF sources said most of the fighting took place along the security fence since terrorists were constantly trying to reach the area to plant bombs or to attack military forces. The IDF operations also focused on uncovering tunnels that terrorists are suspected to be digging under the fence and into Israel.
