The IDF confirmed on Tuesday night that infantry and tanks had entered the central region of the Gaza Strip shortly before. The forces were to operate in Khan Younis and Deir el-Balah. In the past two weeks, the IDF had concentrated its efforts on the south, where Cpl. Gilad Shalit was believed to be held captive, and in the north, from where Kassam rockets were often launched at Israel.
