IDF kills Jihad man killed near Jenin

Man belonged to cell planning to attack Israelis; 10 terror suspects arrested.

An elite Border Police force killed a senior Islamic Jihad operative in Kabatiya, south of Jenin, overnight Sunday. The operative was identified as Muhammad Naza'al, 23, whom the army said was linked to several attempts to carry out terror attacks against Israeli civilians. The IDF said that the soldiers had lay in wait for members of the terror cell. The soldiers opened fire when they spotted the group and, in the ensuing firefight, Naza'al was killed and three other members of the cell were wounded. The three casualties were given medical treatment and transferred to security forces for interrogation. In a car belonging to the cell, soldiers found three M-16 rifles, a Kalashnikov rifle, explosives and military flak jackets. In other overnight operations, the IDF arrested 10 terror suspects in the West Bank and the Jordan Valley. In Tubas, southeast of Jenin, a Hamas member was apprehended. Five suspects, including two Fatah operatives, were arrested in Nablus, a Hamas member was apprehended in Ramallah and an Islamic Jihad member was arrested in Bethlehem. On Monday afternoon, two Kassam rockets fired from Gaza struck an open area in the western Negev. Hours earlier, three mortar shells fired from the Strip landed near the Gaza security fence. No one was wounded in either incident, nor was any damage reported.
