IDF Cpl. Gilad Shalit is alive and being held by Hamas operatives in Gaza, a senior IDF officer said Thursday. The officer added that the conditions for Shalit's release " had improved dramatically," but declined to say more.
According to him, the kidnapped soldier has been transformed from "an asset to a liability," for the Palestinians and has caused a major rift between the Hamas leadership in Gaza and the leadership in Damascus, Army Radio reported.
