Six months after the outbreak of the Second Lebanon War this past summer, Northern Command Chief of Staff Brig.-Gen. Alon Friedman said Tuesday that the IDF was preparing for another confrontation on the Syrian front. In an interview with Army Radio, Friedman said that the IDF was deployed along the northern border better than it had been before the war. According to Friedman, the fact that Hizbullah was no longer approaching the border was an achievement for Israel. "We can say that right now we're in a much better situation, but there are still many challenges before us. We still have a lot of work in order to be prepared the way we want to be prepared," he said.
