In addition to its artillery and missile barrage from land and sea into the northern Gaza Strip, the IDF began shelling unpopulated areas of Gaza City early Sunday morning. The unprecedented shelling comes after the launch of four Kassam rockets from the northern Gaza Strip. "Hamas could stop the launchings in a matter of hours," Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz told Army Radio.
