Israel prepares for int'l monitors over PLC vote

The IDF, Israeli Police, and Foreign Ministry were preparing Wednesday for the arrival of international observers coming to monitor the PLC elections in January. This cooperation came in spite of previous Israeli statements rejecting assistance to the Palestinians so long as the Hamas was to participate. The police planned on accompanying VIPs coming from abroad, including former US president Jimmy Carter. Israel Radio reported that the Foreign Ministry was preparing special passes for the observers, permitting them to look over the elections. The IDF was expected to pull out of major city centers 48 hours before the elections, in order to allow free movement of Palestinians.
