Likud committee approves primaries proposal

The Likud Party's constitutional committee approved by a vote of 16 in favor with one abstention the proposal by party chairman Binyamin Netanyahu to change the method of choosing the party's Knesset list from a central committee vote to primaries. The proposal begins the process of stripping the party's central committee of the power to choose the list. According to the proposal, Likud MKs for the next Knesset will be chosen by the party's entire membership, while regional representatives will be chosen by regional party members.
