"Abu Mazen (Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas) has emerged as a genuine leader who has extended his hand to Israel's prime minister," said Labor MK Ami Ayalon on Thursday. Ayalon's comments came in the wake of Abbas's call for a national referendum on the parameters of a future Palestinian state if no agreement is reached with Hamas within 10 days. The Labor MK called on Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to prove the "sincerity of his intentions" and publicly support the PA president. He urged Olmert to meet Abbas in the immediate future.
