Netanyah resident Adam Baniagov, 38, was sentenced to 25 years in prison by the Tel Aviv District Court on Wednesday for a shocking sexual assault he perpetrated against a woman he had met by happenstance, Army Radio reported. According to the report, Baniagov had been convicted of holding the woman against her will in her own apartment, where he beat and sodomized her several times over the course of three days. The victim was required surgery due to repair wounds she suffered in the assault, and she was also admitted to a psychiatric ward to treat the emotional trauma she endured. She died a short time later from health complications resulting from the attack. The judges said the assault was "exceptional in its depravity." Baniagov's defense attorney said that he would appeal the sentence.
