Man who attacked elderly woman jailed for 5 years, fined NIS 25,000

The Haifa District Court on Sunday sentenced Meir Azuat, charged with attacking an elderly woman in November 2007, to five years in prison. He was also ordered to pay NIS 25,000 to the plaintiff, who was attacked by Azuat and another accomplice while the woman withdrew money from an ATM. At the end of his trial, the defendant's family began swearing and spitting at the judge, prompting the arrest of several family members. In July, the other attacker was sentenced to six years in prison.
