Marzel: Don't go to anti-gov't rally

Far-right-wing activist claims organizer of TA event has same approach as PM.

Far-right-wing activist Baruch Marzel on Thursday called on his fellow right-wingers not to participate in the Tel Aviv rally against the Olmert government Thursday night. According to Marzel, "[Maj.-Gen. (res.)] Uzi Dayan, who is organizing the rally at Rabin Square, takes exactly the same approach as [Prime Minister Ehud] Olmert and [Defense Minister Amir] Peretz." He declared that "Dayan, too, participated in the festival of illusions of peace in recent years - the festival of deception meant to fool the people."
  • Tel Aviv protest next threat to Olmert Earlier Thursday, Dayan said that the rally was not meant to change the political playing field. In an interview with Army Radio, Dayan said that "our ambition [is] to make it clear to the prime minister, the defense minister and the rest of the members of the Knesset that they need to take responsibility." He added that "the full square will intensify the message of the people, who need to go out and shout, 'Enough!'" The organizers of the rally hope hundreds of thousands of disgruntled Israelis will show up and compel Olmert to resign. With the participation of groups such as the Movement for Quality Government, Tafnit, the Organization of Northern Border Communities, and reservists angry about the failures of last summer's war, the rally marks the first public test of the resonance of the campaigners' message. The organizers say no MKs have been invited to speak at the rally. But popular musicians will perform, including Aviv Gefen, Subliminal, Gilad Segev and Nimrod Lev.
