Attorney-General Menahem Mazuz said Wednesday he would not make a decision about whether or not to suspend Finance Minister Avraham Hirchson in the wake of the allegations against him while the police investigation was going ahead full steam.
He said police would question Hirchson again soon. The finance minister has already undergone two police interrogations so far. On Wednesday, Mazuz met with Cmdr. Yohanan Danino, head of the Investigations and Intelligence Branch, and Dep.-Cmdr. Yoav Segilovich, head of the police team investigating the allegations against Hirchson. The two updated senior state prosecution officials including Mazuz, Deputy State Attorney for Criminal Affairs Shuki Lemberger and Tel Aviv District Attorney for Criminal Affairs Ruth David on the investigation.
Meanwhile, the watchdog organization the Legal Forum for the Land of Israel called on Hirchson for the second time to suspend himself. In a letter addressed to the finance minister, the organization warned that although he was presumed to be innocent, public confidence in the government would be reduced to zero as long as he remained in office.
