Mazuz rejects legal group's call to suspend Olmert from duty

Attorney General Menahem Mazuz rejected on Wednesday a request by the Legal Forum for the Land of Israel to announce Prime Minister Olmert's suspension following the police investigation against him.
"The suspicions are indeed serious, especially when the suspect is the person acting as prime minister," lawyer Ran Nizri, Mazuz's top assistant said.
"However the investigation is in too early a stage to influence the continuation of [Olmert's] position [as prime minister] and at this stage we cannot foretell how matters will evolve."
