Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz decided Wednesday evening that the Karni goods crossing would be closed on Thursday, following the firing of four Kassam rockets at Israeli targets from the Gaza Strip earlier in the day.
Mofaz' decision marked a reversal of an army statement earlier in the day, which said that the Karni crossing would not be closed in order to allow crucial humanitarian aid to cross over into the Gaza Strip.
Palestinian sources blasted Mofaz' decision as politically motivated and claimed that it stemmed from a power struggle he was having with army officials, Army Radio reported.
