MK Benny Elon, head of the National Union-National Religious Party bloc, underwent a procedure three weeks ago to remove a tumor in his vocal cords. Biopsy results revealed that the tumor was cancerous, Army Radio reported Tuesday morning. Elon will begin chemotherapy next week, along with radiation treatments that are expected to last six weeks. According to Elon, examinations showed that the cancer had not spread beyond his vocal chords and was fully removed during the surgery. In an interview with Army Radio, Elon said that though his voice has been hoarse for years, it only recently got bad enough that he had it checked.
