The Navy has detained eight Palestinian fishermen in Rafah waters near the southern Gaza Strip, Israel Radio reported on Wednesday. Four naval ships arrived at the scene accompanied by IAF helicopters. Seven fishing boats were destroyed by the army, said Palestinians. The IDF said that the fishermen were taken into custody after their boats were spotted leaving Egyptian waters in a suspicious manner. One of the Palestinians claimed the group was not involved in weapons smuggling and that they were not carrying arms aboard the ships, Israel Radio reported.
