The Knesset plenum approved in first reading on Tuesday evening a bill according to which the poor would pay lower fees for electricity , Army Radio reported. The bill was submitted by MK Moshe Kahlon (Likud), and it postulates that electricity is a basic commodity and therefore should be subsidized. Kahlon said the bill was meant to diminish the number of incidents where poor families who could not pay their bills had to suffer the electricity being cut off from their houses.
