Prime Minister Ehud Olmert announced the allocation of NIS 1.5 billion for the welfare of elderly persons in need and second-circle Holocaust survivors.
Speaking at a press conference, the prime minister said the budget was "an important step that would make the lives of [Holocaust] survivors easier. I am proud that this government took responsibility for this issue, no other government before has done so."
The head of the Center of Organizations of Holocaust Survivors, Noah Flug, said he was pleased with the results of negotiations between the government and the organizations.
