Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on Sunday played down expectations ahead of a regional summit, telling his Cabinet not to expect a "dramatic breakthrough" at the gathering.
Olmert made the comments a day ahead of a meeting in Egypt with Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Jordan's King Abdullah II. The meeting is meant to bolster Abbas in his standoff with Hamas.
"We have an interest in having this meeting, but I don't want anyone to think we're on the brink of a dramatic breakthrough," Olmert told the ministers, according to a meeting participant. The participant spoke on condition of anonymity because Olmert spoke in a closed meeting.
