PA: Power cuts to Gaza leave families unable to warm their homes

The Palestinian Energy Authority warned Monday that the power cuts to Gaza are causing severe damage to weaker parts of the population, leaving them unable to warm their homes, Army Radio reported. The Hamas government announced yesterday that following the Israeli decision to decrease electricity flow to Gaza, the power in the Strip will be cut out for eight hours daily. The power cuts were steeply increased by Israel Sunday, in a bid to disable Kassam workshops and to pressure Hamas to prevent Kassam launches. Human rights organizations in Israel criticized the move, saying it was a blatant breach of international law. According to the organizations, the actual structure of the electricity system in the Strip does not allow for rationing as selective as desired by Israel.
