Prime Minister Ehud Olmert will be traveling to Russia Thursday afternoon for a sudden visit with President Vladamir Putin following the Russian leader's return from Iran.
Olmert and Putin spoke last week and discussed various regional developments and agreed to meet soon.
The prime minister is scheduled to return to Israel immediately following the meeting.
This is the first time in years that a prime minister has traveled for a one-day visit to a country other than Egypt, Jordan, or Turkey.
The Prime Minister's Office announced that the two leaders would discuss the diplomatic process with the Palestinians, the Iranian nuclear threat, and other regional developments.
