Deputy Premier Shimon Peres officially announced his candidacy for presidency on Sunday morning.
Kadima MKs Yoel Hasson and Ronit Tirosh admitted the necessary signatures for Peres to run to the Knesset secretariat. Hasson said upon delivering the signatures that there was no doubt that Peres could restore honor to the presidency.
Labor MK Colette Avital said that she had been approached by Kadima officials with a bribe if she would not run against Peres, she told Channel 2 on Saturday afternoon. She was told that if she would quit the race, she would be appointed deputy foreign minister. Avital said that she would have no guilty conscience if her former mentor Peres lost the presidency because of her.
