Incoming IDF Chief of General Staff Maj.-Gen. (res.) Gabi Ashkenazi will hold his post for four years instead of the standard three, Defense Minister Amir Peretz announced at Sunday morning's cabinet meeting. The reason for the extended term, Peretz said, was to avoid a public debate on the matter in three years, as has happened in the past.
