"There can be no social justice without peace and there can be no peace without social justice," said Amir Peretz Sunday night at the Jerusalem International Convention Center.
Speaking in front of a large crowd of Labor Party supporters, Peretz went on to name a better education system, raising the minimum wage to 1,000 dollars a month, raising pensions for retirees, and waging a war on poverty as the Labor platform's four central socio-economic tenets.
Earlier, a Labor official at the event confirmed there were ongoing talks between Peretz and former prime minister Ehud Barak.
