Labor Party Chairman Amir Peretz asked the Knesset on Tuesday to replace his standard-issue bulletproof Mercedes and provide him with an alternative car. He said that a Mercedes represents a certain class, and as a "man of the people," he does not feel a part of that class. Opposition leaders are provided with the armored Mercedes as a precautionary measure. The Knesset said it would look into other options for Peretz.
