Police arrested twelve people allegedly tied to a crime organization in the South on Thursday. The detainees are suspected of serious felonies, including throwing hand grenades, arson, preparing explosive devices and blackmail.
Following several months of detective work in the Negev district, evidence tying the suspects to a series of violent offenses was collected. Negev District Police officers raided the suspects' homes and took them for questioning.
One of the detainees in the case is an IDF officer with the rank of captain. He is suspected of making explosive devices and transferring them to the others members of the organization.
According to suspicions, the gang members were responsible for throwing a grenade at the home of journalist Artzi Halfon in January 2007.
Police said Adam Ital, indicted for allegedly murdering two youths in a twenty-four-hour store in Beersheba and suspected of three other murders, is considered a member of the organization.
The suspects were to be taken to the Beersheba Magistrates' Court for a remand hearing. Police said they would soon arrest additional suspects in the case.
