Police harshly criticized the new police appointments of Internal Security Minister Avi Dichter on Sunday. Dichter decided to appoint Israel Prisons Service Chief Warden Yaakov Ganot to replace outgoing Israel Police Chief Insp.-Gen. Moshe Karadi and former Jerusalem police chief Cmdr. Mickey Levy to replace Karadi's deputy Cmdr. Benny Kaniak. Senior police officers told Army Radio that these were "political appointments that will not carry the organization forward." Meanwhile, Israel Prison Service (IPS) officials slammed Dichter's offer to Kaniak to appoint him the new IPS chief warden and asked: "How can the minister fire a man from one organization and then appoint him to lead another?"
