Police said on Saturday night that they still didn't know who torched the car of the mayor of Sakhnin, Muhammad Basir, in the early hours of Friday.
The family found the car and put out the fire themselves, a police spokesman said, adding that the background appears to be criminal and not political or security related. He also said that the mayor hasn't been provided with any protection and noted that this is the first time in the recent period that a car has been set on fire in Sahknin.
