The government decided on Sunday that control of the checkpoints for roads traversing the security fence would be transferred from IDF to police forces on the Israeli side, whereas they would stay under military control on the other side. Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz's recommendations on the route of the fence near Ariel and around Jerusalem were also approved. Interim Prime Minister Ehud Olmert stressed the importance of completing the construction of the fence, Israel Radio reported.
