Rabbi Lau to PM: I'm not a presidential candidate

The chief rabbi of the Tel Aviv-Jaffa District and former Ashkenazi chief rabbi of Israel, Rabbi Yisroel Meir Lau, told Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on Thursday evening that he was not intending to present his candidacy for the presidency of Israel. In a telephone conversation with Olmert, Lau said that he was not planning to run for president and also that he prevented MKs planning to start petitions supporting his candidacy from doing so.
