A 41-year-old Herzliya man was jailed for 25 years on Tuesday after he was convicted on two counts of rape and two counts of carrying out an indecent act. The man, Eitan Farhi, was arrested with the help of a DNA sample. In one case, the 41 year old raped a 20-year-old woman as she left her home one evening. The rapist dressed up as a policeman, dragged the young woman to a public park, sodomized her and committed an indecent act. While committing the offense, the man carried out severe violence against the woman and threatened to slit her throat and harm her family. In another case, the man raped a young girl on her 15th birthday as she returned home from scouts. The rapist dressed up as an Arab and raped her in the bushes as she begged him to stop. Farhi was also convicted of breaking into the apartment of a 20-year-old woman, threatening to murder her and ordering her to strip while he carried out an indecent act. In the fourth case, the man carried out an indecent act outside the window of another young girl. The girl called the police and when they arrived, Farhi attacked one of the officers and fled. Farhi, who had a criminal background, was ordered to supply a DNA sample in the investigation into the murder of attorney Anat Pliner, a Ramat Hasharon real-estate lawyer and mother of two, who was stabbed to death on her front doorstep in April 2006. Although Farhi's lawyers claimed he was promised the sample would only be used for the purpose of the murder investigation, the Tel Aviv District Court decided to admit the evidence in the rape case. In addition to the 25-year jail term, Farhi was also given a two-year suspended sentence and ordered to pay NIS 25,000 to his rape victims and NIS 10,000 to the victims against whom he committed indecent acts. His lawyers said they planned to appeal against the sentencing.
