Buses carrying several hundred settlers and rightwing activists arrived at Homesh, a settlement evacuated during the 2005 disengagement from Gaza on Tuesday. They were planning to hold a rally demanding a return to the abandoned settlement. IDF forces were securing the event, having been directed by the government to allow the nonviolent protest to proceed as planned.
