The security cabinet was meeting on Monday night to discuss an IDF request to expand the army's ground operations in Lebanon.
Army Radio reported that the ministers were also discussing diplomatic measures aimed at reaching a ceasefire agreement with Lebanon.
On the previous night, Israel announced it would suspend aerial attacks against Lebanon for 48 hours, unless there was an imminent threat.
