Shas chairman Eli Yishai refused on Sunday to say whether his party would support the nomination of Vice Premier Shimon Peres for president.
The party would most likely withhold an endorsement until the last moment, Yishai said in an interview to Israel Radio, adding that "many changes" were expected throughout the nomination process.
"Shas respects both candidates - both realistic candidates," Yishai averred, in a veiled reference to Labor MK Colette Avital, who recently announced her candidacy for the presidency.
