Shomron: IDF failed to deal with Katyusha attacks

Former chief of General Staff Lt.-Gen. (res.) Dan Shomron, chairman of the committee probing the performance of the General Staff during the recent war in Lebanon, said Tuesday that the IDF suffered a failure in dealing with the Katyusha rockets fired on the North and that the war was conducted without a clear aim. During a Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee meeting, Shomron said that the IDF's command echelon did not succeed in translating the instructions of the government into practical operations on the ground. Nevertheless, Shomron stressed that in his opinion the IDF's staff of senior officers were capable of rejuvenating the IDF even in its current make-up, Army Radio reported.
