South's residents furious over cancellation of Beersheba-Ashkelon train

Residents of the western and northern Negev were furious after hearing on Sunday of a decision by the Transportation and Finance Ministries to cancel a train line between Ashkelon and Beersheba. The decision was motivated by financial considerations. Avner Mori, head of the Merhavim Local Council, said the decision exemplified the government's distorted priorities, which leaves the periphery outside the country's borders.
