Sri Lankan government rejects Tamil rebel call to revive 2002 cease-fire

Sri Lanka's government Friday rejected a call by Tamil rebels to revive a 2002 cease-fire, a week after Colombo officially withdrew from the truce.
"The ground realities do not adhere to do so," said Keheliya Rambukwella, a defense ministry spokesman, referring to the Tamil Tigers' proposal.
The rebels said Thursday they wanted to continue the Norway-brokered cease-fire, saying they were "ready to implement every clause" of the truce and respect it "100 percent."
Rambukwella said the rebels used the cease-fire to strengthen militarily and "to continue their terrorist activities."
