Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on Wednesday named Tzvia Shimon to replace Yonatan Bassi as head of the SELA Disengagement Authority.
Shimon has served for the last three years as deputy director-general in the Prime Minister's Office responsible for manpower and human resources. She has also played an administrative role in Sela, helping with logistical and administrative issues.
Shimon came to the PMO from the Foreign Ministry, where she served in senior administrative roles in Israel's missions in Cairo, New York and Chicago.
The former head of the Hof Aza Regional Council, Avner Shimoni, said he would take a wait-and-see attitude about the appointment.
"The true test is in her actions," he said.
Bassi was appointed to the job in the summer of 2004 and announced in February that he wanted to resign. According to his office, he is likely to leave the post at the end of June.
