Former Gov. Mitt Romney, who is considering a bid as a Republican presidential candidate, will travel to Israel next week to address a security conference that is also attracting the attention of other presidential contenders.
Former Democratic Sen. John Edwards and former Republican House of Representatives Speaker Newt Gingrich are also scheduled to address the seventh annual Herzliya Conference - although by satellite.
Romney appearance comes as he works to broaden his international and national security credentials with an eye on the 2008 Republican presidential nomination.
Last month, he paid a personal visit to Japan, South Korea and China to broaden his knowledge of Asia. Also last year, he paid brief visits to Iraq, Afghanistan and the US detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. In 2002, Romney headed the Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City.
